CALASANZ PHYSICAL ARTS® body conditioning system is a proprietary set of exercises available only through the CALASANZ SYSTEM™. Evolved over 30 years through Calasanz’ study of the human body, martial arts, and modern sports strength and conditioning techniques, physical arts are the most sophisticated and comprehensive system of exercise the world of fitness has to offer.
The exercises are holistic, so in the same exercise you are training strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination, and muscle unity. Many of the exercises are functional, so you are actually learning a specific martial arts technique. And yes, as in many martial arts teachings, there are hidden secrets within the exercises for you to discover as you go along.
The exercises are performed with light ankle weights and dumbbells and done on the floor, ballet bar, special platform, or bench. The aerobic and anaerobic nature of these exercises helps you burn fat, lose weight and tone the entire body. Regular practice of CALASANZ PHYSICAL ARTS® increases the power of your strikes, lengthens and elongates your body, relieves stress and increases your over all well being.
Aerobic Isolation & Isometrics
All students who train with Calasanz learn his method of Aerobic Isolation and Isometrics. This involves the use of weight resistance in conjunction with deep breathing, chi enhancing exercises and slow, deliberate extension of the muscles. The joints, tendons and muscles are trained in a manner that avoids injury and yields amazing results in a short period of time. Calasanz trademark techniques are among the most popular exercises at his dojo and are a great alternative to fitness club training.
Beth has been training in The Calasanz System for over 4 years. Prior to training with Calasanz, Beth tried step aerobics, nautilus, aquasize and jazz. “Nothing has worked for me like Calasanz’s Aerobic Isolation and Isometric exercises-I even lost 4 dress sizes without dieting!” Beth is devoted to the exercises and finds that they help tone her body and give her the aerobic endurance that she needs to live a busy life. “I am totally devoted to this exercise regime for the simple fact that it works!”
Aerobic Self Defense
The Aerobic Self Defense program was designed for those individuals who were originally trained in dance, gymnastics or similar disciplines. Calasanz enjoys working with this population because they have already built the physical foundation necessary to do well in the martial arts. They already possess power and flexibility; the next phase is to learn the martial arts aspect and apply these new techniques.
The Aerobic Self Defense course includes the toning and endurance building Aerobic Isolation and Isometric exercises, as well as basic self defense techniques. Kristen, a ballet and jazz dancer, enjoys the benefits of Calasanz’s Aerobic Self-Defense course. “I find that it helps enhance my focus and concentration,” says Kristen. “I also like the fact that I am learning how to defend myself in the process.”
BB&P Dance
Welcome to BB&P, a new program of Calasanz Physical Arts. Not only do these letters stand for Balance, Beauty & Power, they also describe the results you can achieve in Calasanz’s new program combining dance and martial arts.
Calasanz has always been a great advocate of utilizing elements of the dancer’s workout to improve martial arts performance. He initially started offering classes in Calasanz Aerobic Isolation and Isometrics, where he incorporated the dance skills he learned as a student of ballet, tap and jazz. He attributes his experience in dance as essential in balancing the traditional hard style karate he studied in his youth. He believes dance is essential in creating a well-balanced martial artist.
